The Henderson House Lava Formula for Primary Acid Based Disorders
The body has carbonic and hydrates the fastest enzyme in the world or excuse me in the body six million reactions a second I think that's what it is. So you have this central equation, which is a water plus co2 is an equilibrium with carbonic acid And simple algebra and you end up with um what we call the Henderson house lava formula,. The pH is equal to uh pKa plus the log of bicarbonate over co2 Okay so if the bicarbonated goes up the pH goes up if the co2 goes up the alkalosis goes down and from there Uh, we can we can define the four primary acid based disorders.
