The idea that only Jewish people are going to be saved is not a historic part of Judaism. The Old Testament writers make God sound like he commands everything, says David Perry. This view grew up in the period just before the time of Christ when the Jewish people were under Gentile domination. It was very easy for them to view Gentiles as persecuting oppressors who wouldn't be saved.
