I think the two biggest lessons that I learned from my parents are always think for yourself. Never sort of like take given wisdom as your own. If you disagree with something, it's okay to disagree with it. Being nonjudgmental is incredibly important for creatives and particularly writers. The Sopranos is a perfect example of a show which has empathy for human being.
