Adam Smith - Is That Too Simplistic a Way of Looking at It?
Adam Smith is generally held today to be the figure most responsible for the foundation of what we now call capitalism. He waged war against mercantilism, which was his word for the system of state directed overseas commerce centered policy. The language that Smith used to describe the system that he preferred was not capitalism. But the simple and obvious system of natural liberty.
