The Asche of the Red Heifer in the Book of Numbers
Jol human argues that there is an analogy between the tabernacle and the garden of eden. Banishment from eden placed man in the realm of death, he writes. The wilderness is pre eminently a place of death for israel, which must die to be reborn. Heifer foreshadows the impending final elimination of the old generation - symbolizing the promise given to the new future.
