The Effect of Short-Sightedness on Public Health Officials
Jay Parini: I think the idea that politicians have a short horizon because they need to get reelected is almost built in. But wouldn't you think that for public health officials, they have a longer horizon that they should care about? So why did this short-sightedness have such an effect for them? Is somewhat of a puzzle to me. It's hard to convey this to economists because we're such a cantankerous bunch.
