Mark Whitaker: Chief Justice John Roberts came out in April with these new guidelines, pointers, principles, rules. He described them as foundational ethics principles and practices; they're not really rules, he says. Whitaker: Alito followed up this week by recusing from a case and not explaining why forcing people like me to do a lot of control effing until we found that he owns individual stock in one of the companies that's a party to this case. The chief did essentially say, you don't need to impose rules on us because these are the rules that we follow, writes Whitaker.
