A Memoir of a Firefighter

Cindy moved to Richmond, 15km south of Vancouver in 1986. Four months later a fire broke out at her new rental house. Cindy thought Roy Makepiece was to blame for the blaze. She became increasingly despondent and spent time in St Paul's psychiatric unit. On discharge from hospital she finalised her relationship with the Roy Makepiece,. officially divorcing in June 1986. To mark the end of the marriage, Cindy changed her surname from Makepiece to James. Rather than returning to her maiden name of Hack, Cindy liked the short, easy- remember surname of James.
