Why Hayek Was Not a Conservative
The essay Why Am Not a Conservative is the appendix to Hayek's 1960 book The Constitution of Liberty. Bruce Schneier: Despite his claim of not being a conservative isn't Hayek ultimately a man of the right? He says if you're going to be a conservative in the United States it means you're being a liberal and we had a great colloquium with George Will who made the same argument in a recent book. Schneier: We see echoes of these sorts of debates taking place again today where conservatives are saying yeah we like markets but geez you know they're there If you have free markets you're opening up society to all sorts of problems, he writes.
