If the alternative to talid is to figure out everything for yourself, then how many people will be in a position to avoid talid? We might therefore propose that ijti had should be limited to only the most important issues. A more refined approach to the problem of talid would not require being a muchtahed for each and every topic we care about. Or if this is too difficult, instead blindly following the nearest authority at hand - surrendering to the vagaries of epistemic luck.
