There are multiple industries built around the fact that the tax code is complex. It's a giant non-productive portion of American economic life. We pay people to come up with this convoluted tax system and then we pay other people to walk us through that convoluted tax system, he says. And what ends up happening is a tax system emerges that's so Byzantine that no one can understand it anymore.
