The Impacts of Building Code Enforcement
Inspectors come down hard on some rental properties by listing as many violations as possible and insisting issues get resolved. But fixing violations is associated with rent increases, either because landlords need to do this to cover costs or they use repairs as an excuse to rehab units,. And then they charge higher rents. So overall, higher rents make cities less affordable and it's has disproportionate impact on people with fewer resources.
