The Optimism of the Visionary
In the aesthetic state, everyone is a free citizen having equal rights with the noblest and intellect. The kind of things French revolution was looking for, we're never actually going to get that in an actual state. But insofar as we're aesthetic, then everybody's equal. That's some cold comfort. As long as you're not with your aesthetic trying to intrude on the realm of the actual, that would be bad taste.
