I have been interested in the senses and particularly in smell for a while. And that, you know, interest was was peaked in my second book where foul odors played an important role in the development of public health in late 19th century France. I don't want to rub readers noses, or any other parts of their bodies in these incredibly unpleasant environments, but I do want readers to confront.
