The Story of Zana
Zana was likely of Eastern African descent, although we cannot rule out partially Western African ancestry. We hypothesize that her lineage could have arrived at the territory of present-day abkhazia as a result of the slave trade practiced between the 16th to 19th centuries by the Ottoman Empire. Our findings elucidate Zana's unfortunate story and provide a clear example of how prejudices of the time led to notions of cryptic hominons still held and transmitted by some today.
