The Stoic Idea to Life

The only thing good in itself is virtue, which is living in accordance with rational nature and accepting whatever happens to you as part of the divine plan. Other things such as life and death are indifferent, though usually under acircumstances to be preferred. However, there can be exceptional circumstances when life is not actually to be naturally preferred. In those cases it is acceptable to commit suicide. The Stoics make a strange distinction between the good and the naturally preferred.
