What Is Civic Patriotism?
A nationalism rooted in some kind of celebration of ethnic commonality can all too easily be used as justification for the invasion of other countries or international forms of hostility. To be a patriot means, bhut you have some special concern, some special solidarity with your own country - even if you might admire many other countries around the world and don't wish them any harm or ill. The values of liberal democracy are thankfully more universal than one country or another.
