At the base of all art is this interplay between individuation and dissolution. The artist, in whatever medium he is using, that is the one whois creative by deciding which boundaries to honor and which ones to destroy. In these greek festivals, nature seems to reveal a sentimental trait. It is as if she were heaving a sigh at her dismemberment. Into individuals, the song and pantomime of such dully minded revellers was something new and unheard of in the homeric greek world. At the very max of joy, there sounds a cry of horror or a yearning lamentation for an irretrievable loss.
