Is There a Source of Variability in Early Childhood?

Language is more variable than motor development. Some kids learn slower, perhaps because they get fewer instances of individual words. There's also probably variation in the amount that kids are attuned to other people and want to communicate. Is there a way to measure motor Variabilities in early childhood? We're looking at scandinavian birth cohort studies on this issue.
