The two engine room intake pipes are 27 inches in diameter and controlled by a single valve. If that valve is open, it could flood the whole sub in a matter of minutes. Naikwyn knows they have to act quickly to get the squaleless back into service before that happens. It's a worst-case scenario: if the sub takes on too much water, she'll sink to the ocean floor.
