The Squid's Perception of Movement
Scientists have focused on what they call the giant axon, very large nerve fiber that radiate throughout the wall of the mantle. And it's about a millimeter and diameter, and the largest nerve of any animal in the world. The squid perceive and respond instantaneously. So that they can propel themselves by shooting out of streams of water within milliseconds of perceiving something that they want to attack. They also then can famously change colors flash colors brilliantly illuminate themselves through chromatophores which cover their entire body.
