The Killer Justly Condemned
Ballads were often set in rhyme or even set to music so that you would sing about the terrible murder. And clearly that helped people remember what was in the account. One of the most famous ballads from this era is called the murderer justly condemned, or the new gate penitent. It tells the tale of George Feast, a butcher of Shortage, being found guilty for the barbarous bloody murder of his wife.
