How to Determine What Is Fair in a Situation
When there is a good to be distributed such as life-saving in the case that we're talking about, fairness requires that people receive the good in proportion to the strength of their claim to it. In this situation it seems very plausible to say that both the people have an equal claim to having their life saved. So, if they've got an equal claim they should have equal satisfaction according to me. Now, part of the complexity is that by hypothesis they can't have equal satisfaction in this case because we've only got enough serum to save one of them. And we do have a way of mitigating that unfairness. We can't save people equally, but at least we can give everyone
