In 19 89, technologist David Chalms e launched a company called digicash which used this system. It did quite well, but it didn't, ultimately didn't succeed and was shut down. He originally conceived of cash as a way to deal with increasing loss of privacy that he was predicting with ever more dished the world. And so that that was later dubbed charmian e ecash, and sometimes referred to as charmian minte if you were referring to the minting pot.
