The Black Death in Italy
The poet and scholar Francesca Petrak visits Verona's cathedral to find ancient texts that have been lost or forgotten. He finds a collection of letters written almost 1,400 years ago by the Roman politician Cicero. In them, Petrak finds first-hand information about the period leading up to the fall of the Roman Republic. Heather Inflecher is Professor of History at Manchester Metropolitan University and the author of an alternative history of the Italian Renaissance.
