In the carboniferous era, CO2 in the atmosphere was eight times higher than today's levels. And by the end of the carbon iferous era, several tens of millions of years later, that carbon had been turned into trees. But we should look at what happens when those trees grow, die and we're buried. These forests, these rain forests, the coal forests collapsed as an ecosystem around the entire globe.
