The purpose of the electricity amendment bill is to make power just like any other product or service. The concept of allowing multiple discoms in a single area is not new, but this has not resulted n happy customers. Opposition parties see this as an attempt to boost privatization. A reason for protest is that centre did not take states nto confidence on the amendments.
