A Thorough Examination with Drs Chris and Xand

CHAPTER

The Barriers to Change

There is less genetic influence on health in hiring some people than in lowering home. We all have genes which make us vulnerable to particular illnesses, like heart attacks. If you live in an environment with good food and low rates of smoking, then your heart attack genes are very unlikely to be given a chance to kill you early. But if you're born in a setting where the food is bad and where everyone smokes, then those genes do get to do their work. The risk of having a heart attack is heritable in those communities.
