The style that canadians watch now has its roots in carnivals and traveling shows. The carneys, the guys who used to work in these side shows and circuses, they would promote the shows. Carneys established a lot of the terms and practices that are still used to day in pro wrestling. A hooker was a person who is a really good wrestler that could take someone down minute or two. And i mean, that's still a really common term nowadays.
