The Problem With Correlations in Visual Experiences

A lot of empirical work in this area got going by just looking for correlations. Correlations are just not explanations, as we all know from statistics and physics. The challenge is to show why is it that these neurons behaving in this particular way? That's what I'm getting at. It's not the hard problem, but it's certainly an extremely challenging problem.
