The RP2040 is a dual-core chip that was very fortunate about when it hit the market. With their own in-house processing ability, whereas everybody else is struggling to get their chips made. I think they lucked into this global chip shortage. They're not scarce at all. You can really buy however many you want and at five bucks for an already built up dev board. If you don't need wifi, they're a deal.
