Diaz's Journey From Lisbon to Angola

Diaz left Lisbon in August of 1487 with three ships. His orders were to find a route to Asia, and he envisioned sailing all the way to India. But his men were not on board for such a voyage. He could have headed directly east toward the African coast, but instead he decided to take what nature was giving him,. using the westerly winds and letting it take his fleet for their south and then east. Diaz didn't know it, but the winds would take the ships south of the tip of Africa.
