The Assembly of First Peoples in Victoria
The Victorian Treaty Advancement Commission came up with the idea of an elected group of first peoples. The current version of the assembly will have 32 members and that's chosen in two different ways within our community. Each region has a number of representatives based on proportion of population of first peoples in those areas. And then there's also here in Victoria, we've got groups that have formal recognition as traditional honored groups. So that gives us 11 of those groups, 10 of those have chosen to put forward a representative. One group, the Yorta Yorta have so far chosen not to submit a representative, but the other 10 have.
