There's probably not a fruit or vegetable that you ingest that isn't genetically modified. Mendel, the monk back in the 1800s, was playing with the genetic makeup of pea plants. And so even before we get to CRISPR, there were some gene editing technologies that were utilized. But they were more rough and ready, I guess you would say.
In this episode, Dr Matt and Dr Mike discuss how humans realised that bacteria could fight off viruses using sequences in their DNA called, CRISPR. Today, CRISPR technology is being used to cure cancer and investigate the cause of genetic disease.
