A lot of the things i work on have their origins in string theory contexts. I tend to think of string theoryists primarily our best shot right now at understanding a theory of quantum gravity. And one of the things about string theory that's very tantalizing is that it seems with within the way it does that, it also gives you a chance of describing all the other forces of nature as well. Yet there are other approaches to quantum gravity that ae regardless of what you think of them.
