Carols and the Edgerton Manuscripts
The carol is so versatile, put it in the pub and it's completely at home. We have non-notated Carol books as well. So we have these sort of different environments going on in which the carols are performed. You would normally with the polyphonic carols say that they were performed by highly trained musicians. It was probably people connected to institutions like Household Chappelles or The Church. But a lot of them, we can take a more informed guess now that they are possibly connected to institutions too.
