Witherspoon's Slavery

Witherspoon baptized a runaway slave in Scotland, taught free blacks at Princeton. He believed no man had the right to take away the liberty of another based on a superior power. As chairman of the New Jersey Committee, considering abolition, Witherspoon did not oppose slavery.
