Dimensional models can make the understandability and discoverability of core domain objects clearer than if you have these one-off models that answer a specific question. If you want to do any further exploration, then you have to go back to from the source and build back up to it. You need to make sure that you are building with the intention to share data across these business processes and understand those. There's a term Kimball mentioned, called Conformed Dimensions. That was the idea.
Summary
Architectural decisions are all based on certain constraints and a desire to optimize for different outcomes. In data systems one of the core architectural exercises is data modeling, which can have significant impacts on what is and is not possible for downstream use cases. By incorporating column-level lineage in the data modeling process it encourages a more robust and well-informed design.
