I imagine part of the story here is how we screen cops before they're even hired. And I don't know if the answer is requiring college degrees, although my lefty roots will come out here because I'm not super comfortable with legislating blue collar workers out of any profession. So there are a few studies that do suggest that police with college degrees are less likely to be involved in excessive force situations. But it's impossible to untangle that from the fact that police withcollege degrees start out they're usually a little older than the other officers.
