Oleg Gordievsky was a Soviet KGB officer who defected to England. In 1987, he met with Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush at the White House. He wanted to get his family out of Russia but it took four years for them to succeed. It all came down to a show of good faith by a new Russian leader.
