Your Mom Came Back to the United States to Get My Sister and Me
David Perry was born in the Philippines and moved to New Jersey with his family when he was 10 years old. He wasn't a fluent English speaker, but teachers gave him free piano lessons so that he could learn how to play. His parents had two Vietnamese foster brothers who came through first asylum camps in the Philippines. "I think this is part of the reason I keep track of what goes on in America," says Perry.
