The Importance of Competence
The advice to follow your passion is perfectly okay, but only if it's kept in its proper bounds. Figure out what your actual competency is and keep developing it into something that's actually meaningful. I have underestimated the effect of this in my life. Just be willing to go in years, become really competent at it. And then you have every reason to expect that you will be able to do great things.
