Britain was built by a bold race bred to battle happy men causing trouble and torment in turbulent times. More strangeness has happened here than anywhere else i know of on earth. But most regal of rulers in the royal line was arthur, who i heard is honoured above all. A conversation with my dad about a great medieval adventure story originally written in middle English and updated and translated into modern English by Simon Armitage. Dad talks about the origin of this story, its connection to the history of the English language, and the poetic devices used in the writing. In the second half I read a summarised version of the story and some verses from Armitage's modernised version.
