Pockets are slightly worrying because they represent a space that is under the control of women. Ariane explains that pockets also became associated with the suffrage movement, and well, the men really didn't like that. M&S have got back to me but did not answer our questions about why women lost their giant pockets. But I do feel like the very fact that men have historically been so against women having pockets in their clothes is a pretty good argument for why women should have as many big and beautiful pockets in every single item of clothing as is humanly possible. That's just me.
