The central banks underestimated the importance of supply side factors leading up to the Great Moderation. Since then, they've continued to learn the implications of supply side problems. I think a lot of- there's a big psychological component to economics and policymaking. If your formative years were during the Great Depression, maybe you're very afraid of deflation. And if you cut your teeth in policymaking skills during the Great Financial Crisis, then you're always afraid that Lehman is around the corner. These events have a very powerful impact on how they conduct policy.
