The Witch Trials of Salem
The book's extremely general witch criteria led to countless accusations of witchcraft. This led to hundreds of trials and countless executions, far worse than those seen at Salem. Whole villages could find themselves involved in trials, with hundreds accused despite very little or no evidence. One of the worst examples was the Würzburg trials, which took place between 1625 and 1631. These saw 900 people, 400 of which were children, burnt at the stake for being witches.
