The Origins of the First Crusade
Turkmen is a term generally used to describe Turkic peoples of Oz origin. Seljuks Turks who invaded Anatolia can be correctly described as Turkmen. These Turkmen would attempt to take their own slice of land for themselves in Anatolian territory which were those lands that formally belonged to the Byzantines. The people of Anatolia were Greek speakers and seen by Arabs as Roman in origin so these people were referred to by their Muslim conquerors as the room. Salaman ibn Qutalmish whose father had attempted to become the Sultan of the Seljuks Empire declared himself as the Sultan of Room. He would establish a capital city at Nikia which we know to have
