Turkey was a candidate for EU membership and these guys seemed intent to go ahead and pursue in pursuit of that goal. And Turkey has actually been conducting fairly decent elections since 1950 whenever the military didn't take over. Now I would argue that the opposition in Turkey, instead of looking at this new reality, a party with an Islam's pedigree being in power, pursuing a Westernization program,. Instead of fighting them politically, they chose in my judgment to fight them administratively and bureaucratically.
