Understanding Bitcoin's Purpose
Bitcoin is not trying to be the cheapest payment network, although in many contexts it can be. Instead, Bitcoin is trying to be a decentralized bearer asset and payment network. In terms of the asset, Bitcoins are something that users can self-custody with encryption if they want to. From there, we can then look at the energy usage and decide whether or not it's achieving its goal.
