The Future of Signal Is in the Hands of Small Donors

Google has failed for a decade to get people to switch off of iMessage. Facebook will happily tell you that there's more action on Instagram in messaging than there is on the grid or in stories, but they haven't displaced iMessage. Then on top of it, you've got the also the users need to like us so much they donate to our foundation so we can keep things running. Not every user needs to donate. We're never going to charge to use signal because privacy shouldn't be only for people who want to pay for it or can pay for it. But we do think that people will recognize and I don't subscribe to the theory that people are idiots.
